general info

Frodesley Forest Garden

The aims of this project are to demonstrate a sustainable system of local food production, through the creation of a self supporting ecosystem requiring low maintenance, whilst producing high quality products.
Forest Gardens work with the land and not against, it they produce a wide range of products, are aesthetically beautiful and biologically sustainable.
This project is in the first year of planting and the emphasis for this year is the acquisition of shrubs and bushes and the propagation of stock for planting next year.

Frodesley Forest Garden Project ( FFG) is a 2.6 acre site of mostly pastureland but with about half an acre of ancient coppice (neglected)
The Land is divided into 2 fields the larger to the north and generally has a gentle slope to the north, sheltered on 3 sides by woodland. The soil is about neutral PH of varying depths over thick dense clay, but seems to drain well
There is mostly just me working the land occasionally aided by my partner, friends and family. Acquired about a year ago there has been an initial planting of mostly top fruit. Desert apples in south field,  cider apples in north field with a scattering of various pear, damson, gage, plum. The local council kindly granted about 40 native trees about half being fruit bearing and the others grown for coppice / pollarding and nitrogen fixation. There are also hybrid willows being grown for fuel biomass. Currant bushes, herbs and spices are being added as and when.

I have only recently moved to the area and hope to build links with local individuals and communities with a view to enabling the spread of sustainable and ethical techniques of living
